Drawing Cabinet in 2016

by Ng Joon Kiat

Drawing Cabinet in 2016 hopes to look at some contexts and pretexts like policy-making and other recent historical conditions surrounding how some of Joon Kiat's drawings and paintings are directly and indirectly informed, influenced and developed. This work will include some historical quotes and reading materials from the 1950s nation-building period of Singapore, to recent times commenting on issues about art, culture and historical formations of the country — Quotes are taking from Ministers of Singapore from the 1950s to present, which includes Mr Inche Othman Wok, Mr George Yeo, PM Lee Hisen Loong, the late Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, and Mr Ong Pang Boon.

This work is a new development of Drawing Cabinet which was first presented as part of a solo exhibition in 2007 at the National Museum of Singapore.
