Serpopard

by Joshua Burns

Mythical Mesopotamian creature
Half-cat
she loves the shade.
Half-snake
her blood runs cold.

She loves the shade,
pinching eyelids.
Her blood runs cold.
She bolts for a warm rock.

Pinching the eyelids,
cats nap like 20 hrs. / day.
She bolts for a warm rock.
Snakes are difficult to gender.

Cats nap like 20 hrs. / day.
Do they even live?
Snakes are difficult to gender.
So am I.

Do they even live?
Consensus is divided.
So am I;
hiss and purr.

Consensus is divided.
Half-snake
hiss, and purr
half-cat.
