Imagine I Go to a Pub

by Antony Huen

A bloke is somehow yelling.
A dog happens to be barking.

The food never comes fast.
      Windows are always sweating.

The ducks should be sleeping now.
      The swans and the geese?

Four different drinks,
      four different accents.

When I asked for a soup,
he thought I wanted a song.

Antony Huen is a PhD student at the University of York, where he is investigating how contemporary poets draw inspirations from visual art. Since his research started taking shape, he knows he has made the right decision to take a break from teaching and devote himself to the analysis of contemporary poetry.
