As part of our fifth anniversary issue, I thought it would only be right to pay tribute to the city that has helped make us. I have therefore put together this small sampling of some of the city's best young and upcoming poets. The writers included in this special feature are well published internationally and several have received prestigious awards and nominations for their work.

This is by no means a comprehensive or representative selection of all the great poets writing in Hong Kong today, although I hope to compile one in the near future. Instead, I have focused primarily on young, ethnically Chinese poets because I feel we have not had such a collection in recent years.

I should also mention that all but one of the selected poets is a former Cha contributor, and two of these contributors are part of the journal's staff. I hope readers will not see this as a conflict of interest, as there are only a limited number of Asian-based literary publications for Hong Kong poets to publish, of which this journal is one. Besides at Cha, we are always pleased to see old faces, especially on our birthday.

I hope you enjoy reading this feature, as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
