Poem Composed Entirely with Last Lines in James Laughlin Poems

by James Valvis

You were waiting for
love to get warm,

but she never returned
and she drove away.

Ten will soon come to you
to be married next month.

All right – it's been a long time.
Happens.

You still exist
as a water buffalo. She said it hurt a lot

with a different suggestive perfume
of closed doors.
